Unplastic life

In March 2018, the government declared a ban on plastic. We saw many photos and videos on how plastic is affecting our environment. Many of these photos, videos, and infographics were mind-shattering. We have destroyed a lot already and its time we act on our actions. The government fined people using single-use plastic with Rs 500. I started seeing a lot of ads for cloth bags for vegetables and daily grocery. These cloth bags were in high demand. People started carrying cloth bags everywhere with them. And if they forgot to carry bags, vendors would give newspapers pages to carry … Continue reading Unplastic life

Six yards of elegance

Over the period, I have developed a liking for sarees. We all know, ‘a woman can never have enough clothes. It is true. In the first year of marriage, I barely had 10 sarees. And now in the seventh year, I have almost 50 of heavy work and heavy border sarees. I wear these sarees only when there is some family occasion. My father always says, “A woman looks her best when she wears a saree” and my husband believes in the same. I barely wore saree 4 times before I got married, so I was not an expert in … Continue reading Six yards of elegance

The cab driver

In a city like Mumbai, we have a lot of options for Public Transport. We have local trains, metro trains, auto-rickshaws, taxis and now with the onset of Uber and Ola we have a lot of cabs too. So, reaching from one place to another is easy, it is just time-consuming due to traffic on the roads. I was going to meet a friend whose father was admitted to the hospital due to a heart attack. The news came to me in the morning and I decided to visit her. When I was young hearing such news of anyone’s illness … Continue reading The cab driver

The Trump Card

Silk sarees and the expensive sarees always need special care and cleaning. This is the reason we wear it only on special occasions. I love to wear sarees but due to the humid weather in Mumbai, it becomes impossible to carry sarees with comfort, hence I prefer wearing them on weddings. I pile up these special sarees and give it for a dry wash at a time. So once, I took five of my sarees for a dry wash on 10thFeb. The dry cleaners’ shop is on the street which is marked as ‘Even date parking only’. But when I … Continue reading The Trump Card

Rakshabandhan

Raskha Bandhan has been one of my favourite festivals since childhood. When I and my brother were kids, Mummy used to bring a rakhi and a bar of chocolate. Rakhi for me, to tie on my brother’s wrist and chocolate as my gift from my brother. Rakhis were big with multiple layers, the most bottom layer was of a shiny flower shaped paper then was a sponge, then again a shiny paper topped with ‘Om’ or ‘Swastik’ or a floral design. And my chocolate was an Rs.10 Dairy Milk. On this day Mummy also used to make lip-smacking ‘Naral Vadi’ … Continue reading Rakshabandhan

Mummy

A best friend is defined as the closest friend of a person. We all have had best friends, sometimes it is just one person who stays with you since your childhood but many times we meet them in our journey of life. I had many best friends, but as of now, I have 4. One is my husband, one is my junior college friend, one is from my first office and the last one is my mother. I did not realize she is my best friend until I got married. I was so used to her being around, I needed … Continue reading Mummy

Rangoli- My way

It is a family ritual to draw Rangoli in the patio or in the entrance of the house. My grandmother used to draw an intricate Rangoli design, filled with vibrant colors. I have seen her rangolis and helped her in it. As she was turning old day by day, her hands became shaky and it was getting difficult for her to put Rangoli. My mother took over my grandmother’s ritual. She used to draw Rangoli every morning in the patio. But it was not as beautiful as my grandma’s. On festivals, I used to force my grandma to draw Rangoli … Continue reading Rangoli- My way

You don’t know anything.

As I have said in my previous write-up, I was a brat in childhood though not a proud one, I regret it big time now. My mother is very innocent and is far away from the realities of modern life. She is happy in her own circle of life, doing her work and listening to the radio. She is a technologically challenged person, though now she is active on WhatsApp & Facebook, she still struggles with a lot of things. She is the same person now, that she was 25 years back. I was a tantrum queen when it was … Continue reading You don’t know anything.

A bad morning

I wake up by 7:00 am every day and after taking a bath I enter the kitchen. The first thing, I do is to boil the milk and prepare tea. While the tea & milk boils up, I finish brooming the house. By the time, I broom our house, tea gets ready and the milk also comes to boil. As usual, I woke up at 7:00 am, I was brushing my teeth and when I looked in the mirror, there was a horrible & ugly pimple on my left cheek. Urgh! This had to come today only, I have to … Continue reading A bad morning

In a foreign land

I got married in the year of 2013. The best part of a wedding is the honeymoon. We planned to visit Italy for our honeymoon, well it was Roma, Venezia, Firenze & Pisa i.e. Rome, Venice, Florence & Pisa. I had never been to a foreign land before but, my husband had visited a few countries before. He was very supportive and kind to me. He had prepared me with do’s & don’ts in the foreign land. I was so happy to visit this beautiful country; it is a perfect honeymoon place. Elton John said, “I love places with an … Continue reading In a foreign land
